Chevrolet is a brand associated with trust and luxury for its phenomenal sway in the American market. Chevrolet was introduced in India by General Motors, which is the parent company of Chevrolet. Today Chevrolet India is selling some of its popular variants in the country. Chevrolet vehicles in India have taken the country by storm. The rising popularity of the brand has resulted in a huge Indian fan following. Chevrolet India is again planning to hit the Indian showrooms with its all new sedan called the Chevrolet Sail. Chevrolet Sail Sedan is already successful in the US and UK markets, and now it will hit the Indian showrooms. The car also has a ‘hatchback’ version, which will be available soon. This sedan is the booted version of the Chevrolet Sail hatchback.
Engine:
The vehicle is powered by a well-known 1.3 litre common rail diesel engine that was co-developed by Fiat and General Motors. The petrol variants will get a 1.2 litre S-TEC II or a 1.4 litre S-TEC III engine. The 1.2 litre engine can bring power of about 53.1 kW/L along with a worthy torque economic value and 0-100 kmph acceleration is 12.9 seconds. The 1.4 litre engine acquires power of 54.3 kW/L and 0-100 kmph acceleration is 11.9 seconds. Both the engines come with a 5-speed manual gearbox and offer amazing fuel efficiencies. The 1.2 L petrol version offers a mileage of 14 to 18 kmpl and the 1.4 variant offers 12 to 16 kmpl in the city and highway roads.
External Looks:
The front view of the Sedan is really stunning. It has been painted fully in body color, except the cluster of headlamps and the grilles. The grilles have been painted in black. The nose of the car is composed of a large cluster of headlamps, round but small fog lamps, the upper grille with the Chevrolet Sail emblem at the center. The side skirts, bumper, ORVMs and door handles have the body color. The LED turn indicators have been placed below the outside mirrors instead of the ORVMs. The rear side has been given a ‘wow’ look with the trunk’s gate, tail lamp in lava red colour and the Chevrolet emblem - all contribute to the same. It has a very neat and clean hood surface with a classic fit and finish. The sedan has a streamlined shape that reduces the drag, thereby improving the fuel consumption.
Internal Looks:
Being aware of the fact that the interiors of a car affect the decision of customers to much extent, the company has made lots of efforts for designing the interiors. The interiors of Chevrolet Sail are very comfortable and spacious. The cabin has a twin-cockpit design with a contemporary central control panel consisting of a CD player/MP3 interface. The dashboard is available in two tone scheme including a black painted upper part and the dim cream colored lower part. It has ample of storage capacity with glove compartments for both the front passenger and driver. Besides the glove box, there is enough space to put a mobile or any other similar thing. Dual-tone covers decorate the interiors of the car including the seats. Both the seat rows have been provided with enough head, leg and shoulder room. A beautifully colored instrument panel rests behind the three-spoke steering wheel. The central fuel tank, arch-shaped doors, a shorter front suspension and normal rear suspension maximize the interior space enough for five passengers.
Handling and Safety:
The Indian variant of the Chevrolet Sail Sedan will possess disc brakes at the front with anti-lock braking and electronic brake force distribution for a safer driving experience. The solid chassis helps handling the vehicle efficiently. A sporty steering allows controlling the vehicle effortlessly. Both the seat rows have seat belts ensuring the security of the passengers. In case of a frontal collision, the dual airbags at the front activate automatically so that front passenger is not being hurt. The other safety features include retract-ability of the steering column, advanced braking system, safety locks and a stronger seating system for the kids. The fuel tanks are surrounded by a steel frame to enhance the safety.
This compact sedan may come with four color options including Selective yellow, Candy white, Brandelis blue and Metal silver. The car is expected to launch this October and it may carry a price tag of around Rs. 6 lakhs to 7.50 lakhs. Chevrolet Sail will be seen as a competitor to Hyundai Accent, Swift Dzire, Maruti Tata Indigo and other similar cars in Indian car market. However, it is believed that the middle class customers who are looking for a fuel efficiency vehicle will buy this car. So, this compact sedan may be a great hit in Indian car market.
