One of the world's major automakers, Honda is going to launch the Honda Brio, an entry level hatchback in India in the year 2011. The price of small car, Honda Brio is between 3 and 4.5 lacs. The Honda Brio is initially codenamed as “CV2”. The word Brio means 'the funny car' and 'small'. 

The Honda Brio car has a 1.2L petrol engine, a 5-speed manual and an automatic (CVT type) transmission option. The Maruti Alto and Hyundai Santro is the main competitor of Honda Brio. A de-tuned version of the 1.2-litre engine is set for providing higher fuel economy and to decrease production costs. Honda 2cv is a hatchback car with approximate 3700*1680*1550 (L*W*H) in dimension base engine. Besides this, it also has a three-cylinder 900 cc powered engine. Like Chevrolet Beat, the Honda Brio also has rear door handles which is fixed to the frame.

Honda is going to manufacture one lakh small cars per annum. The Honda spokeswomen said, “All plans of the new small car are going as per schedule”. India will export Honda Brio to Europe and Thailand and they will export to other market. Thailand also manufactures the same car (2CV) which is expected to be developed and sold under the Thai government’s Eco-Car project.

Honda’s City and Civic are the most loved cars as Honda is recognized for its reliability and unique design. Honda Brio car will drive into India next year with a fuel efficient, refined and minuscule petrol engine. “Globally there is a tendency towards smaller cars and our research and development division in Japan is looking at that segment (Alto, Santro) as well,” Takashi Nagai, President and CEO, Honda Siel Cars India told Hindustan Times. “What we are working at is combining the K cars in Japan with some cars in Brazil and India and making a car smaller than what we showcased during the Auto Expo in January.”

Takashi Nagai also said, “We are focused right now on successfully launching our next small car. With this car, we will hopefully increase our sales beyond 1 lakh units from the current 60,000 units and also start car assembly at our Tapukara plant. Initially it will only be a hatchback, but like the City (sedan for Jazz) it may also be expanded to a sedan.”
