An American R&B singer and songwriter Teddy Pendergrass died on January 13, 2010 at the age of 59. His son said the Associated Press that Pendergrass died in a Philadelphia hospital due to colon cancer. Teddy Pendergrass's Funeral arrangement has been announced. A public viewing is scheduled for January 22 at Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church in Philadelphia at 10 AM Eastern Time. Teddy Pendergrass was born on March 25, 1950. Theodore DeReese Pendergrass was the birth name of Teddy Pendergrass. He was one of the lead singers of Haorld Melvin & the Blue Notes in the 1970s before a successful solo career at the end of the decade. The brakes failed of his Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit car, and hit two trees in 1982. He was harshly injured in this accident and he was paralyzed from the waist down. After his injury, the sociable entertainer founded the Teddy Pendergrass Alliance foundation, which helps those with spinal cord injuries. He was an international superstar and sex symbol. Teddy was 5 times nominated for the coveted Grammy awards in his life.
Teddy’s son said that his father had been hospitalized for months and he underwent colon cancer surgery eight months ago and had a difficult recovery. Pendergrass was working on a musical documenting his life, called "I Am Who I Am," before his death. He was survived by his son, Teddy Pendergrass II, and two daughters at the time of the death.
