Last Friday, on 18th June, 2010 Tay Ping Hui, 40, finally got married with his long time girlfriend Edna Lim, 39. Tay Ping Hui is a Singapore actor while his better half is a university lecturer. During Star Awards earlier this year, after receiving the award for Top 10 Most Popular male Artiste, he has been saying that he was ready to settle down and even thanked his "future wife and unborn baby".
Tay Ping Hui's wedding news hardly came as a surprise. Edna Lim, the 39-year-old National University of Singapore lecturer accepted Ping Hui's proposal last year. Recently, Caldecott Hill’s resident heartthrob published to a local publication his newly-minted attached status and purpose to “get married after the general elections.” "I thought the elections would be held in May but apparently I was wrong. We couldn't wait so we went ahead with the wedding."
Before adding that fetching his bride was the hardest part, Tay told xinmsn.com, "I got married on Friday and went through all the traditional marriage rites like fetching the bride, registering our marriage and the wedding banquet on the same day". The wedding banquet was held at Capella Singapore in Sentosa. The venue was decided by the buddies and Tay. Only 1 table was kept for his close friends in the media out of the 35 tables at the banquet.
Only close friends and relatives were invited as the wedding was a simple one. "Since everyone knew each other, the atmosphere was really very heartwarming and didn't look like we're putting on a 'show". As for celebrities, I only invited one table, because I only invite those I'm really close to." As he refused to accept any sponsorship deals, the entire cost of the banquet, expected to be a five-figure sum, was borne by Tay. He explained, "The guests I invited are really close friends of mine. We really know each other and are on very good terms. It is not like doing a show. As for artistes, I only invited those with whom I have close ties with".
Ping Hui immediately resumed work on Sunday after the wedding on Friday because of their hectic schedules. Ping Hui said that they plan to go for their honeymoon in Europe only at the end of the year, when the climate would be cooler. Recently, the couple rented a colonial-era residence as their marriage home but Tay revealed that he eventually wants to buy a home on Sentosa when the property market cools down but pointed out that he will "still visit his parents often". As for children, five would be the perfect number. "Enough to form a basketball team," said the actor, but not before he and his missus get to enjoy life as a married couple for "one or two years".
