FaceBookTwitter

Grey hair is very common as a person ages but certain reasons such as heredity, thyroid problems and nutritional deficiency can cause premature graying of hair. If you have a few gray strands and want to cover up with natural remedy then refer the following article.

Hair turns grey as the follicles at the bottom of the hair shaft stop to produce melanin. A limited number of pigment cells are contained by every follicle that produces melanin which gives unique color to the hair. There are two types of melanin such as eumelanin and pheomelanin. Melanin amount in every strand will determine the darkness or lightness of the hair. If the hair contains more melanin, the color of hair is darker and if it is less the color is lighter.

Causing a person's hair color to alter melanin level can differ eventually and it is possible to have hair follicles of over one color. The pigment cells in the follicle slowly vanish with the age and the hair becomes completely gray. At any age people can get gray hair. Genes of decide decide that how early they get gray hair. Gray hair is more visible in people with darker hair.

Causes of Grey Hair:

Lack of Essential Nutrients:

The most common causes of grey hair are improper nutrition and unhealthful eating habits. The real cause of grey hair is phenylalanine. Phenylalanine, an amino acid mixes with the enzymes in the hair and turns itself into melanin which aids in maintaining the original color of the hair. Milk, eggs and other dairy products are the good sources of phenylalanine. Hair graying is also caused by thyroid imbalance or deficiency of vitamin B12.

Mental Stress and Tension:

Hair graying can also be caused by mental stress and tension due to busy lifestyle and extreme workload. Stress and tension can be released by doing exercises, yoga and meditation regularly.

Heredity:

Genetics is the main cause behind hair graying. Premature hair graying can happen if your parents started to have grey hair in their young age.

Smoking:

Smoking also causes hair graying as smoking affects melanin production in the body and converts hair gray into color.

Exposure to Sun:

The secretion of melanin is lowered by the regular and prolonged exposure to the harmful UV rays of the sun. Dust and pollution are the other major causes of hair graying.
