Worst Buenos Aires train crash in Argentina

A train crowded with plenty of morning travelers crashed at about 8:30 a.m. into a barrier placed at the end of the platform of Once station which is situated in the capital Buenos Aires. As per officials, this is the worst train crash in Argentina in 40 years because 49 people have been died and over 600 wounded in this drastic accident. As well, Passenger cars crushed completely and almost all windows blasted in this accident. It is believed that there was some error in the brakes. At present, dozens of people who were trapped for hours in the wreckage, have been successfully taken to the safe place by emergency workers. Two days of mourning are declared in the country also carnival festivities which scheduled to be held in Buenos Aires Feb. 24 and Feb. 25. are canceled by the government.

As per an eyewitness, people begun to break windows and trying to get out from the train anyhow. The engine smashed and the train driver trapped between the steel. Paramedical workers treated the injured people. Forty-eight (48) adults and one child were included in the dead people list and most of them had packed into the first two cars to get earlier than the usual crowds on arrival. The conductor of the train is quite young at 28 and was apparently well-rested. The motorman is hospitalized and enable to speak with his union representatives yet. The dead bodies were carried out to the back of the station in body bags.

The conductor was obviously struggling with the brakes as he missed the stopping spots at station after station, according to the passengers but Schiavi stated that  brakes of the machine were worked well at earlier stations, so the actual cause of this accident is not known yet. Many people were wounded in a mixture of metal and glass according to the survivors. According to Emergency medical system director, Alberto Crescenti; some travelers who survived, had to have limbs surgically removed. Many survivors undergone from arrested breathing and trauma to the thorax area.

Many passengers are in a serious condition in the city's hospitals and there are anxieties that the death toll could be increased. As per the correspondent, many parts of Argentina's rail network are very old so there is requirement of repair meanwhile, this unpleasant incident will also increase worry about lack of investment in the system. Trenes de Buenos Aires, owner of the train, sends its sympathies to all the families of those passengers, who died through a statement and worried for health of those, who were injured.
