The 2010 YOG is the first Youth Olympic Games held from Aug. 14-Aug. 26, 2010 in Singapore by the International Olympic Committee. The games allow youth athletes from 14-18 years old to compete each other. More than 3,500 athletes from 204 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) are competing in 184 events in 26 sports of 2010 Youth Olympic Games. The Youth Olympic Games (YOG) is expected to be held every four years in staggered summer and winter events consistent with the current Olympic Games format. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Jacques Rogge has introduced the idea of event in 2001.
Next Youth Olympic Games have been planned for 2012 in Innsbruck, Austria, where winter Olympic sports will be contested, and for 2014 in Nanjing, China, where summer Olympic sports will be contested. The opening ceremony was held on 14-Aug at the Float at Marina Bay, attended by the athletes and was broadcast live on the Internet. Encompassing, lights, fireworks, song and dance, it may not have any 'A-list' entertainers, but it definitely was a top notch performance.
The evening was the beginning of the sporting event and really set the tone. The flame which lighting the 2010 YOG cauldron as part of the opening ceremony, signifying begins of the Games, has been brought to the Float at Marina Bay the world’s largest floating stage while the opining ceremony and may continue to burn 12 days of the Games until the closing ceremony on August 26.
YOG 2010 closing ceremony will feature youth dancers, singers and other performers, according to the Singapore Organizing Committee. The ceremony is called “An Unforgettable Party” and will look back on the highlights of the 12 days of the 2010 Youth Olympic Games, according to the Singapore 2010 website.
Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games Closing Ceremony tickets are available to sale at the price rate$80, $40 and $15. The tickets can be purchased by online through the Singapore 2010 website (www.singapore2010.sg/tickets), by ticketing hotline (+65 6348 2010) or by visiting the Singapore Indoor Stadium Authorized Ticket Counter only. According to the Singapore Organizing Committee, the tickets were not purchased during the balloting, or lottery, phase.
For those who are unable to attend the ceremony Closing Ceremony at the Float at Marina Bay in Singapore, the Ceremony will be broadcast ‘live’ on August 26 from 7:30pm to 9:30pm on Channel 5 /HD5, and the repeat telecast on August 28 from 2pm to 4:30pm.
